I wanted to share these old promotional pictures from the now defunct Autokit Industries of Oakland, California (the last I heard, and this was some time ago, Kaylor Kit, who specialize in electric vehicles held the molds for an updated version). Anyway, it’s of course a VW based kit, and could be bought factory built for $4,300 (1976), or in kit form for $2,895.
Like I said, I think it’s actually a pretty car, but you have to shoot it from the right angle because it’s a monstrosity otherwise… You gotta love the posed pictures though.
You know I can’t help but wonder if the Invader was styled by or styled after the Probes 15 and 16 and other such things made by the Adams brothers in the UK.
The Invaders always stuck me as a bit but not much better looking Bradley .
Cheers,
P.

I just got a Invader GT5 for free. It doesn’t have an engine or transmission and I’m planning to restore it soon. I’m wondering where I may be able to get some replacement doors for it. Theres a chunk missing from the lexan door which I need repaired or replaced. Dan Yarger 818-967-6548
Btw owners of these extremely rare cars should unite in national registry in an effort to estimate how many of these cars still exist.
I have one in Spain since 1966.There,s five more in the country as i know.but running properly only two.
I think is on of the builded in Torrejon de Ardoz(Madrid). The engine was broken in 1978 but we change the engine for a volkswagen one.

I made the drawings and sketches for the Invader GT-1. David Loring made a clay plug in Sausolito with mud from Richardson’s Bay. He made a splash mold that he took up to Oregon where I made the first part that brought back to Menlo Park, CA where I made the pre-prototype for the Prius with it. The car was exhibited at over 100 shows. I produced 1100+ electric kits suitable for VW’s. Dave took the splash mold to Oakland for Bruce Weeks to make 4 bodies for him, but Bruce madee 8. Bruce made the GT-2,3,3,5 bodies. (Bruce made 1850+ GT-5’s) I bought Auto-Kit from him. Toyoto bought a prototype 110+ MPG @60MPH bio-diesel “synergy drive” hybrid electric car built on a GT-5 platform from us, Shut down by FBI Counintelpro immediately afterwards (2 hour story) in 1982. 831-234=9703

They are trying to make Mr. Kaylor get rid of this car in this picture. The government also robbed him of ever getting any patents and are now using Agenda 21 to take his 160 acre land in the Santa Cruz mountains which this car and many of his other electric vehicle inventions are stored. If any one is interested in helping in anyway contact Roy Kaylor or Occupy SF. This man also helped put the voyager satellite in space. He started building electric car engines because he was allergic to solvents because of chemical exposures done by the government. Please help save The Kaylor Micro Basin Wildlife & Wilderness Preserve!!!!!!!
Do you have kaylors phone number?

I just bought an invader. my wife hates it but I love it…she needs a lot of work….looking for any info…
would love to have a build manual
there is talk about an original mold being sold. if interested text me at 831-359-1585 and ill get you in touch with the people
Shane I know the person, Talked in great lengths about it. Fact is the molds are pretty useless. There is NO market for a new one of these.
I have original build instructions for the Invader GT5. Would be well to make copies for anyone interested.
If you could scan it and send it to me that would be great.
I hear the rumors all the time. The real has never been told..
So shoot me an email and tell me all about it Mr. Weeks. I have no problem telling both sides.
