Richard (tvr_vixen_2500@yahoo.com) recently picked up the red Aztec that was posted here for sale a while back… He writes, “it’s a decent lil car and believe it or not the engine wasn’t seized.” He’s also looking for advice in getting the tilt top working nicely, so drop him a line if you’ve got tips*. He recently rebuilt a TVR, so I’m putting good odds that this car will find itself back on the road when he’s done with it.
* Oops, when I first wrote this entry I read his query as “tilting” but he actually said “titling”… He bought the car with a bill-of-sale, but no title, and is looking for advice getting it titled for use in Illinois. Drop him a line if you know about that.

After looking under it I could see that the subframe to the front is bent. Most likely from some bumper tag . When that gets removed the front might come back up. If not the brace will get bent the other way so it’s held up. Either way it should look nice when I get done with it.

Yep thats me I see you got the Tri-Vette looking good. And that new yellow kit is amazing the invaderish styling looks really cool. Did you get the new windows made for the Tri-magnum yet?

Yes, I put new Lexan windows in the T-mag and drove it quite a bit late last summer. With no wiper,heat or defrost it’s a fair weather only car. The Tri-mag is a difficult car to live with and drive but nothing is even remotely like the expereience of driving one. The Trivette is suprinsingly easy and quite usefull as a daily driver. I realy love the styling of your aztec, Did you figure out how to get a Title yet? Here in WA you can apply for a Title with the State Patrol with no paperwork at all. It requires an inspection (they just check the vin numbers). They will let you register it straight away but you have to wait 3 years for the actual title. You could also try using a Title service like “Broadway title”.
I have a lead on a titled VW pan. Since this engine does run it will go with the new pan. After looking around under the car a better pan is a good choice. In IL they make such a project out of things . I can see the reason for the VIN inspection and such tho.
With the T-mag figuring out some form of simple heat will be needed for me. One way to go might be grafting a pair of type 1 vw heat boxes in the exhaust. There isn’t much room to heat as you know . I’m not sure but don’t small plane wipers work on Lexan because of the special blade compound? The Trivette looks totaly fun many people have gotten whiplash doing double takes I bet!.
