Hey Everyone. Just came across this Fiberfab Avenger GT/ Gt 40 Replica Kit Car on craigslist. As many of our readers know they made these Avenger kit cars in high numbers. Nothing really special about them, and not all that valuable, even in great condition.
Now this Avenger Kit Car does have a few things going for it. It does have the Corvair engine and it does seem to be complete. Of course its going to need a fair amount of work to get it car show ready, even if the seller says he drives it often…

Now just because I am curious I did look on ebay and there is no avenger gt kit car body “Selling” for 3-5k . There was one listed last week for $3500 but of course the auction ended with no bids.
I think you would get a good deal if you could get this one for $4000 . There is another one with a Corvair engine, and in need of some work on eBay right now for a starting bid of $3500. We will be watching that one to see what it ends at.

Love this website. Just found it today. Really wanted a kit car as a teen back in the mid-late 1980’s, but $$ was an issue. Some things never change. :) lol
I’m just starting to look at kit cars again. Have driven a 97 Ford Escort for 18 years (~ 300k miles… the odometer broke at 246k… three years ago). My wife told me I should give that car to our soon-to-be-driving rug rat, and look for a fun car, something I would like. :) yay me!
This listing says the car could use a re-paint. Do you know if a vinyl wrap would work on a fiberglass body?
Hey Andrew. Thanks for the comments. Vinyl wraps are fine with fiberglass but it can get expensive. Another option would be plastidip. That stuff has come a long way and there are so many color options. I want to plastidip my next one.
I’m trying to decide whether to go cheaper with a car like this, or pay more for a car that is a replica of something else. I like the beautiful design of something like a Testarossa, 308, or 355. However, I like the lines of this Avenger too.
I wish this was closer to me, but it’s several hours away. I’m 6’4″ tall, so I’d like to have a chance to sit in a car to see about head and leg room. I’d also like to see it in person. The car is still listed (March 24th).
By the way, thanks for the comment about plastidip. I’ll have to look into that.
I have an older Fiberfab front hinges open [for gas tank], back hinges open for corvair 140 HP engine. Hasn’t been started in years. Built in the 60’s, took 6 years and 2 months to chase down parts, install etc. part time every week end, most evenings. Would never do another one. My time alone would have bought a Corvette. Was something to do that was creative. Everything was a pain in the Butt. Built on 1959 VW sedan base. My biggest mistake was covering it up with a tarp that went all the way to the ground and did not allow fresh air flow under the pan so now I have to get pan halves, remove body, install pans, reinstall body, re-paint etc. I raced a Dodge 440 hp on the street, he was rolling with guys hollering out the windows to get on it so I did and waxed his butt from a dead stop in front of a Chevvy dealer. They do draw attention tho’.
Anyone know where I can find an Avenger for sale?
