Remember Ferris Bueller’s Day Off? Given that the real deal in Ferrari 250 GTO-land sells for as much as $13 million (one of the guys from Pink Floyd has one), I imagine they destroyed a kitcar.
This one was owned by Bill Wridge in the late 1990s, and was built on a 1972 Datsun 240z and professionally assembled by Tim McBurney using original Ferrari lights, reflectors, emblems, and badges. The dash was replica, but admittedly the rest of the interior was left 240Z… The wheels still needed to be swapped over to wire from the chrome ones.

The car drives great at over 200 kph, these often hit $30,000 at auction, and are one of the most convincing replicas out there…. Like too many kits, this was sold well below market value. I think in order to find more space in his garage he ended up letting it go in the $10-$12k range.

Hi there, Its not a 250GTO in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off… its another early Ferrari.
In the opening scene of the Tom Cruise movie Vanilla Sky, he drives a black 250GTO (later replaced by a mustang). This is also a replica and not a real Ferrari.
Yeah, it’s a 250 GT California Spyder from FBDO, not a 250 GTO, which has no convertible form.
The McBurnie kit isn’t the most realisitic replica out there though, it’s too small and the proportions are wrong. I find that the Stable Autoworks kit (which is also cheaper and takes less time to install) provides a more realisitic look.
It is the drummer, Nick Mason who owns the GTO, it allso happens to be the one that has those GTO250 registeration plates. He’s know’n car nut and owns shitloads of fancy cars
The Ferrari on Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is a replica of 1961 Ferrari California GT250 Spyder. It’s actually a well replicated fiberglass bodied MGB powered by a Ford V8. I agree that 250GTO replica kit’s based on Datsun 240/ 260Z proportions are all wrong.
I am the original owner of this McBurnie Replica and I had Tom McBurnie build this car for me in San Diego at McBurnie Coachcraft. Tom personally constructed most of it before the decision to have the bodies built in Mexico.I paid $7000 to have him take a $1000 240Zcar and do the conversion. McBurnie Coachcraft went under not long after I had mine done and Tom McBurnie started building the same car at Stable Autoworks…………….The dash was the only changed part of the interior. The car is still in the Seattle area and I looked at it last week and it is totally falling apart. Huge panel lamination’s,(like the door skins are falling off) Yes the car has been parked outside!!The parts of the car where Bondo was used on the original top have huge cracks.The car is basically a junk heap right now.SAD! I hope Tom in his new venture is using a better and more flexible bonding system to adhere the skins to the original body. Unless Tom has built new molds the car is THE SAME as the McBurney kit.

Ok guys, let’s get this straight. This is not the car or any facsimile of the car that was in the Ferris movie. That was a car that was produced by a company that was in the Southern California area and it used it’s own steel chassis. The one as shown uses a Datsun Z car chassis and it from New Mexico or Arizona.

The 250 GTO owned by Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason is so race-raw that the inside door -release mechanism is a wire with a loose rubber tube covering…they are worth US$20m – and he’s the even ‘poorest’ member of Pink Floyd!

Tom is also a thief I order parts from Scorpionzcars and got screwed. He charged me for parts he never delivered and then said tough crap. Plus the parts that did come were over a month late. Never deal with him if you are smart . Blu Ray had much better customer service by far and weren’t jerks .

It’s a topless version of the 250 GTO based on a Datsun 240-280 z . Complete body kits start at around $4k, and the owner, John Washington is a great guy to deal with.
on march 6th 2007 someone named john stated that he ordered items from tom at scorpionzcars and got screwed , hhmmm well i am tom and i would love to have john show proof to everyone that he infact ordered any items from me and was wronged , i have never screwed any customers out of anything , john are you sure you accually know what ? and who you are talking about , if you have any proof of any of your statements please email me with it and prove your statements . i personally kept logs of all items sold and every customer had files kept no matter how many items they purchased . please i invite you ( john ) to prove you bogus statements

I have a Stable Autoworks Ferrari 250 GTO kit for sale.
I have approximately 98% of the parts accumulated, but never got around to putting it together.
I have a decent, some rust, `72 240Z also.
Trim parts, original Ferrari corner lights, nose badge, trunk script and horn button. GTO style dash with all the gauges including a genuine Veglia Tach that I put a ‘Ferrari’ decal on the face. Coil over parts, new struts, Eibach springs. R200 rear-end set-up, New radiator for Chevy V8 that fits Datsun with modded mounts. Daytona wire wheels – real knock-offs with hubs to fit Datsun, 15X8, reverse laced in rear. And more stuff.
My plan was to make a roadster similar to John Washington’s Velo Rossa, but with more flare in the rear fender, making a glass panel to fit.
It’s all in the west suburbs of Chicago.
