Because it’s so rare I was quite surprised to see this Jackrabbit, a VW Rabbit based kit that at the time was expected to “reinvigorate” the DIY auto market (but then collapsed), at Carlisle ’06. It was a single donor kit intended to be a quick build, but for a variety of reasons the owner of this one, who won it in a raffle, took about eleven years building it — but I expect has it on the road as I write this.
WOW!! I’ve wanted one of these since i saw it featured in Petersons Kit Car Magazine when Herb had just come up with it. Now, I’ve got a TON of VW’s and parts for “donor” material, but can’t find ANY info at all on whatever became of this kit. An email to Herb Adams went unanswered. Does anyone out there have ANY kind of information on this kit, and what ever became of it?
I have one of these kit completed. The car was built by Herb Adam as a test bed. It is for sale.

A friend from high school built one of these kits in the early nineties with his dad. They put the multi-valved GTI motor (1.6L) and it was absolutely the fastest accelerating car Ihave ever been in. My brother (who still lives in NJ- I’ve been in Florida for over 15 years) tells me that Rob has found a 2.0L Audi shortblock, rebuilt the cylinder head and reinstalled it- now it’s even quicker. Bill- I’ll see if I can dig up some info on where to find this kit (or more likely – completed used kit) now.-

I have a kit car build in za that looks very similiar and also uses vw golf/rabbit spares as a donor vehicle.mine uses the or 1800 16v engine that is turbo charged.1/4 mile 13.4 sec @ 195 kmh with 224 kmh on 800m.
