WHAT A GEM!!!! I used to drool over these when they first came out. I think $3000 is a great deal for this VSE Jackrabbit. This really is not something you see everyday and it looks as though other then a bit of elbow grease its almost ready to tear up the pavement. This is from the listing….
JackRabbit kit car built by Herb Adam’s Carmel California shop. Herb Adams a well known General Motors engineer of Pontiac Trans Am and GTO creation fame; Pontiac Trans Am Racing, V.S.E Cobra, and Contessa fame built this car, one of less than 25 actual kits ever made before the Cobra kit car craze took off and VSE produced it’s own famous Cobra kit. One of less than half dozen ever built by Herb Adams shop itself. Based on a rabbit/golf drive train, shortened wheel base with a tube chassis, this street legal 1500 lbs “go cart” is a turn key Gymkhana screamer. 1 plus G skid pad with street tires. Herb Adams himself said the car is able to beat a Cobra in a down hill race. Own a classic collectable built by a master automotist with vision and ability to produce it. Watch the YouTube video of the V.S.E. JackRabbit sales promotion done in the early 90’s. The car can be seen in the garage of Herb Adam’s residence in Pebble Beach, CA. It is the blue and white car in the middle. Interview with Herb can be read here. Three quarters thru the interview Herb refers to the JackRabbit. http://www.pontiacsonline.com/Herb%20Ad The car is complete. It does run rough, 20 plus years of storage. Ca registered non op. Trades considered
If you have the room in your garage this is one you should pick up if its not already gone!

Shame that’s on the other side of the country. That is a great deal, even if the roll cage has to come out (really.. bolting through fiberglass?). Has potential to be a nice car, if only a fair weather one. Gotta like the quote from Adams “can beat a Cobra in a down hill race…”
I would love to find an available Jackrabbit. I had one several years ago that was powered by a 16v twin cam with a 5-speed. It was a lot of fun to drive. I sold it to get into a 356 Speedster kit. I still have the Speedster, but would like to add to the stable.
I found the Jackrabbit to be quite enjoyable to drive and the water cooled engine had lots of performance potential.
There were only 25 cars produced, so I’m not sure if I’ll ever find another one.
I know of a really rough one that was converted to electric but unfortunately the owner would rather see it rot under the redwoods than to sell it to someone that would do something with it
That’s disappointing. With only 25 being produced, I was surprised that they really don’t have much of a following. I enjoyed driving mine. At 6′-4″ it is one of the few kit cars that I fit well in at 6′-4″.
I cant say I ever wanted one all that much, but they were cool. They come up for sale from time to time.
