I should clarify from the start that the RQ Riley Phoenix Kit Car is not really a kit car at all. These cars are built using plans provided by RQ Riley. Im not sure what the value is on one of these to be honest but I doubt you could build one from the plans for his asking price . I remember seeing a geocities website years ago about this car. If I recall the guy built two of them . They were called the Phoenix two I am assuming because it was custom and not exactly to plans.
The seller of this one is slim on details and with all the caps seems a bit angry. Here is what is said about the kitcar…
HERE IS MY VOLKSWAGEN PHOENIX II CUSTOM FROM DECADES GONE BY. IF YOU DO YOUR RESEARCH YOU WILL SEE WHO BUILT THIS AND WHEN. IT HAS A CORVAIR MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION ON A BUS CHASSIS. THE VAN WILL COME WITH A REBUILT SET OF CARBS. SHE WAS RUNNING WHEN STORED TWO YEARS AGO. THE DOORS ARE GULL WING STYLE BOTH FRONTS AND THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR IS A CLAM SHELL STYLE. THE INTERIOR IS DIAMOND PLEAT TUCK N ROLL. AN ALL ORIGINAL SURVIVOR CUSTOM FROM BACK IN THE DAY. ASKING $5000 OR BEST OFFER. CLEAR TITLE IN HAND CALL
So let me get this straight. You are looking to sell your RQ Riley Phoenix Kit Car but you want a potential to do his own research on what you own? selling any kit car online is much easier if you provide the most detailed description. This way chances are better you will find a ready buyer.
Im not going post the link on this one. Its on craigslist
That looks like one they have featured on the RQ Riley site but it’s been repainted. But sending people to look up info on what he’s selling seems sketchy on the sellers part.
I though it was odd too. I am sure the seller is just lazy but to tell someone to look up what he has? lol
Rich,
Do you know where I can acquire a copy of the plans for the Phoenix camper
I think that is really cool looking. The plans can still be bought at R Q Riley. https://rqriley.com/product/phoenix-van/
The R Q Riley site is gone. I think it was taken down when Robert Q Riley – the founder – passed away. Their Facebook page is still there but inactive (I have asked questions but rarely got a reply and my question is gone after awhile). I am hoping that the family of the founder will make the plans he had before would become available again.
Hey Tom,
Unfortunately i have tried to reach out to them as well about future plans for the website and his vehicle plans. My result was the same as yours. I was going to offer to host the website so it could at least serve as an archive but no reply. If you hear anything let me know.
