Many of you may have never even heard of the DF Goblin. To be honest up until a few days ago I had never heard of it either.  Now before you say  “Oh another Atom Clone” or ” Just what we need, another exoskeleton kit car) check out the simplicity in building this car.

I will not bore you with all the details but here is a summary. Buy the Goblin kit. Find a Chevy Cobalt. Get to building. To build you just remove the engine, sub frame, front suspension, among some other bits. You bolt the entire sub frame with motor attached to the provided goblin frame. See were I am going with this? You remember all the kit car ads that used to say “Build in a weekend with basic hand tools”? Well from what I see you can really do that with this kit. Ok maybe a weekend is a stretch for most people, but no reason you and a few of your buddies could not tackle this as a pizza and beer fueled project in 2-3 weekends. It really does look that simple

Pricing is not bad either. They are currently doing a “Beta” release. You can get the “Naked” Kit for $4999, The City Goblin (with body parts) for $6999, and the Track Goblin (with full cage and more) for $7499 . Any way you look at it this could be a Sub $10,000 build if your source the right donor car.

It should be great in the Performance as well . The DF Goblin demo car weighs in at about 1500 lbs and with an estimated 165hp on tap our of a 2.2 liter Ecotec from the Chevy Cobalt.  this kit car should be great for the street or the track. If you want to make it a little rocket ship and you have the budget, why not opt for the Cobalt SS in either supercharged or turbo form? Im pretty sure that will make a lot of people cry from light to light.

I want to point out that this is not an endorsement of any kind. I just really like the direction I am seeing kit cars going . There are so many great options out there right now. Smyth Performance is making great things using VW Jettas, Factory 5 is killing it with the 818, There is the Miata based Exocet, The Goblin, The G35 based Vaydor, and even the new Miata based Widow SP1. Keep this up and we might see an entire new era of kit cars and kit car builder. There is just some really cool stuff out there right now.

We emailed the company for a little info on the car and this is what Adam had to say…

The Goblin started off as a family project to make a few low cost mid-engine cars from scratch using a cheap and easy to find donor. Our plan was to keep it simple so that we could make cars for my dad, my three brothers and myself.

As we got further into the project and started sharing it online and with people in our area, we kept getting the suggestion to make some kits so that other people could build their own Goblins.

Nothing like a family owned car company. Adam also included a few photos for our readers.
