Steve owns this ’71 VW Beetle that’s had the rear removed and converted into a pick-up truck, which he bought as a project a few months ago. He doesn’t know anything about it, and was hoping someone here might know what kit it is, or if it’s more likely a one-off project.

Could be a “Dumas Truck Conversion Kit”?? I saw one on The Samba for sale for $500.
I used to have a kit like this. I have been looking for a finished one. what do you want to know about them
My ex-brother-in-law and his parnter designed, manufactured and sold VW Beetle pick-up and convertible conversion kits in the early 1970’s. The business was called Drake Design and based in Kansas City, Mo.
BGW has been selling kits for the vw like this since the 70s . Not sure if it from them though
I just bought two beetle pickups with the same 70’s style fiberglass kits. I bought them as part of a package deal with some other VWs I wanted.
If someone is interested in them, you can email me and I’ll be glad to enterain some offers. Or if you want me to go through it and restore them to cherry condition, I can do that too.
you can reach me at iis4isaac@aol.com

I just bought a ’73 Beetle converted into a pickup truck. The customizing job is a real piece of artcraft. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. The engine is seized. It didn’t run since 1989. I will have to dismantle the engine. If you want some pictures give me a real email address.

I grew up around Safford Arizona, There was a guy there who did these modifications regularly (Tony)? He must have done 20 or more that I am aware of. Not sure if it was his design or if he was just a distributor.
