It’s not a Saab Sonnet (click for picture) in my opinion, although it’s a similar design.

My 2 cents would be a modified Lotus Elan what makes it looks odd is the hood being slid forward. But like that one guy on dream car garage says do you need a car like that ? My answer is yeah I would drive it . It would be interesting to see another shot of it.

What should be the give-a-way is what appears to be a cast metal hood insert,
Not many kit cars went to that sort of tooling troubles

I agree that it’s not a saab sonnet (although yes, close).
I don’t think it’s an elan either – the headlight pods are wrong.
..I would say that its a Puma, but that slit on the hood doesn’t seem quite right. I dunno….

Is it for sale?
It appears to be an Enzmann 506, which is a Swiss Volkswagen- or Porsche 356-based sports car from the late 1950s or early 1960s, and the holes for what could be bumperette mounts or lights of some sort, what looks to be a lack of opening doors (the Enzmann was doorless, and the fixed-head version had a roof that slid backward for ingress or egress), and the shape of the cabin. However, if this is indeed an Enzmann, the bonnet must have been modified and cut out for the installation of a front engine or an opening boot. It is also somewhat similar to the D.K.W.-based early Puma from Brazil, albeit with its roof chopped off.
Looks an awful lot like on 58 Ford hood on that rusty one.
Looks like Phantom Corsair:
